چکیده

A particular family of timeand space-dependent discrete-time quantum walks (QWs) is considered in onedimensional physical space. The continuous limit of these walks is defined through a procedure discussed here and computed in full detail. In this limit, the walks coincide with the propagation of a massless Dirac fermion in an arbitrary gravitational field. A QW mimicking the radial propagation of a fermion outside and inside the event horizon of a Schwarzschild black hole is explicitly constructed and simulated numerically. Thus, the family of QWs considered in our manuscript provides an analog system to study experimentally coherent quantum propagation in curved spacetime.

Magnetic confinement of massless Dirac fermions in graphene.

Because of Klein tunneling, electrostatic potentials are unable to confine Dirac electrons. We show that it is possible to confine massless Dirac fermions in a monolayer graphene sheet by inhomogeneous magnetic fields. This allows one to design mesoscopic structures in graphene by magnetic barriers, e.g., quantum dots or quantum point contacts.

Non-Abelian optical lattices: anomalous quantum Hall effect and Dirac fermions.

We study the properties of an ultracold Fermi gas loaded in an optical square lattice and subjected to an external and classical non-Abelian gauge field. We show that this system can be exploited as an optical analogue of relativistic quantum electrodynamics, offering a remarkable route to access the exotic properties of massless Dirac fermions with cold atoms experiments. In particular, we sho...

Quantum reflection of massless neutrinos from a torsion–induced potential

In the context of the Einstein–Cartan–Dirac model, where the torsion of the space–time couples to the axial currents of the fermions, we study the effects of this quantum– gravitational interaction on a massless neutrino beam crossing through a medium with high number density of fermions at rest. We calculate the reflection amplitude and show that a specific fraction of the incident neutrinos r...

Emergence of massless Dirac fermions in graphene's Hofstadter butterfly at switches of the quantum Hall phase connectivity.

The fractal spectrum of magnetic minibands (Hofstadter butterfly), induced by the moiré superlattice of graphene on a hexagonal crystal substrate, is known to exhibit gapped Dirac cones. We show that the gap can be closed by slightly misaligning the substrate, producing a hierarchy of conical singularities (Dirac points) in the band structure at rational values Φ = (p/q)(h/e) of the magnetic fl...

Dirac equation in (1+2) dimensions for quasi-particles in graphene and quantum field theory of their Coulomb interaction. Abstract There is evidence for existance of massless Dirac quasi-particles in graphene, which satisfy Dirac equation in (1+2) dimensions near the so called Dirac points which lie at the corners at the graphene's bril-luoin zone. Certain subtle points which are peculiar to od...
